Minimalism is a funny thing. On the surface it seems like it’s about possessions, about the excess stuff. But anyone who’s started down the road to a more minimalist outlook soon realizes that it’s about so much more than material things.

// It teaches you a new way to define yourself that’s separate from what society tells us is important.

// It forces you to examine your life and your priorities in a new way.

// It teaches us to let go of the artificial / superficial definitions of personal value and success.

Most profoundly for me, minimalism has helped me get more comfortable in my own skin. I’m learning to stop defining myself by what I have, what I wear or what I earn. I’m learning to focus on deriving my value from within.

This change of perspective has made my life better, fuller and richer in so many ways.

Here at Oak & Soul we’re big on living a more intentional lifestyle. To us, a big part of making intentional choices is learning about where our food comes from. Eggs are a common item on most families grocery lists and the vast majority of eggs produced come from high intensity, factory like farms. The chickens that produce those eggs are subject to some of the worst animal welfare conditions I can think of.

As people have become more conscious of the conditions these birds are raised in, alternatives have become much more common. Eggs labelled “cage free”, “free range”, “comfort cage” or “farm fresh” are readily available for consumers looking to make better choices, but do you know what all those different labels actually mean?

It took me a while to get here, but I can say in complete honesty that I am content with my nature and embrace it completely. I’ve learned how to thrive as an introvert and find new ways to grow every day. It’s an ongoing journey, but it’s worth it to get to a place where I feel right, myself, good, amazing! I honour myself, push my boundaries, test new waters, GROW.
